ARMY ASSOCIATION FORMED. "ELLINGTON, February 9. . With the object of stimulating interest in marksmanship, the New Zealand Army Rifle Association has been formed, similar to the English Association. It will hold an initial meeting at Trentham on March 13. 14, 15, and 16. The chief match will tie for the Army Championship for the King’s Medal. Tho King has awarded six medals, one to each army of Britain, India, Australia, Canada, South Africa, and New Zealand, and the conditions of competition are the same in all cases, having been drawn up bv the War Office. The prize monev will amount to £3OO for various events, in addition to valuable shields, belts, and other trophies. All units of the New Zealand Forces, Cadets, members of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, and riflo clubs are eligible for membership. The meeting is open to selected competitors (the best shots) from the Royal Navy, the permanent force of Reservists, Territorials, and Cadets. The selected men will be provided with free travelling warrants and rations, provided they fire in all tho individual matches. The association in no way competes with the National Rifle Association. its programme consisting of a series of service rifle shooting matches and machine-gun events
