At the annual meeting of the Otago Daily Times and Witness Company on Friday mention was made of the effort to raise a fund to lift the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Society out of its difficulties, the amount aimed at being £IO,OOO. The managing director explained the circumstances under which the board had initiated the fund with a contribution of £250, and mentioned that a city friend in the course of conversation with him expressed his intention of contributing £250 unconditionally and a further £250 conditional on nine other subscriptions of £SOO being obtained; or, alternatively that he would give the second £250 as the last sum required to complete £IO,OOO. The action of the directors in initiating the fund was heartily approved by the shareholders, and it was unanimously resolved that an unconditional grant of £SOO be made to the fund instead of the £250 voted by the directors.
