EMPLOYEES’ BENEFIT SOCIETY

(From Otth Own Correspondent.) KAITANGATA, January 29. The annual meeting of the Kaitangata and District Miners’ Benefit Society was held in the Anglican Church Hall on Saturday evening. The president (Mr A. C. M'Lelland) presided over a poor attendance of members, there being only 23 present, In submitting the annual balance sheet, the president stated that the society was still making progress, the sick and funeral fund having increased from £547 Is 9d ,to £833 10s fid, management from £6l 7s 4d to £74 18s 7d, hospital fund £4l 17s to £45 3s. During the year there had been paid £174 for maternity claims. Funeral claims for the year had been one member and three members’ wives. The net increase of all funds for the year liad been from £650 6s Id to £358 12s Id. The balance sheet was adopted on the motion of the chairman. For the election of officers the following is the result: —President, Messrs A. C. M‘Lelland and J. Fenton were nominated, Mr MTjeliand being elected. For auditors, Messrs W. Braidwood and J. Fenton were re-elected. Fcrr six members of the committee the following were nominated: —Messrs J. Weastell, A. M'Mullan, R. Rogers, J. Simm, A. Cairns, H. West, G-. A. Clark, E. Payne, J. James, R. M'Millan, G. Cairns, and J. Salmon. The six elected were Messrs J. Weastell, R. Rogers, J. Simm, A. Cairns, J. James, and R. M'Millan. A feature of the elections was that all the. members of the previous year were re-elected, Mr J. James taking the place of Mr D. Howie, who did not seek re-election. A general discussion took place on the amount of sick pay paid per week (£1), and the following motion was carried:—“That the question of raising the sick pay be taken into consideration by the incoming committee.” A. vote of thanks to the chair closed the meeting.
