REVISED RATES AND CHARGES. The Telegraph Department notifies that the new schedule of toll charges operating from February 1, embodying certain concessions, is as follows : From 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., up to three minutes: For distances up to 20 miles 4d For every additional 5 miles or fraction thereof up to 100 miles Id For every additional 10 miles or fraction thereof exceeding 100 miles 2d From 9 p.m. to midnight, and from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m , at exchanges which are open at any time between these hours, up to three minutes:— .V~ For distances up to 40 miles 4d For every additional 5 miles or fraction thereof up fo 100 miles id For every additional 10 miles or fraction thereof exceeding 100 miles Id From midnight to 6 a.m., up to six minutes: For distances up to 40 miles 4d For every additional 5 miles or fraction thereof up to ICO miles id For every additional TO miles or fraction thereof exceeding 100 miles Id Attention is drawn to the following con-cessions:—Half-rate concessions commence—(a) At 9 p.m. instead of 10 p.m. as , formerly. (b) Between midnight and 6 a.m. a. turther concession is made by increasing the minimum chargeable time of each conversation from three to six minutes. (c) The minimum charge for a toll call under 20 miles, r.ovv applicable to subscribers and non-subscribers alike, has been reduced from 6d to 4d, replacing the previous concession applicable to subscribers only of a 3d rate for calls up to 25 miles, (d) A more equitable system, of computing the chargeable distances has been introduced by reducing the steps from 25 miles to five miles under 100-mile distances, and from 50 miles to 10-mile steps over the 100-mile distances. The advantage to subscribers generally will be found under distances immediateh above the 50-mile steps. Thus a call to a station I£>9 miles distant will be charged as 110, as against 150 under the old system, the actual cost being Is lOd, as compared with 2s 3d.
