A SHOOTING AFFRAY.
TWO MEN WOUNDED. MASTERTON. February 4. Two men (James Kenrick, a halfcaste, employed as a drover and shepherd on Black Rock Station, and Pakera Haeata, a Native, 28 years of age) were admitted to the hospital this morning suffering from gunshot wounds. It is alleged that Haeata resented Kenrick’s relations with his wife, who has been living with Kenrick for three months, and he visited Black Rock Station, which is situate three miles from Masterton, at 2 this morning. As Kenrick was leaving to drive stock to Masterton, lie was fjjhot at three times with a shot gun by Haeata. Kenrick then got his own gun, and, in defence, wounded Haeata in the arm. The police and doctor attended the men, and brought them to the hospital, where both are progressing favourably.
