A NEW ELEMENT. LONDON, January 20. Professors Coster and M. G. Hevesy, of Copenhagen, have discovered a new element, which they have named hafnium, by means of an X-rays spectrum analysis of ore containing zirconium. The new element has not yet been isolated. TREATMENT FOR APPENDICITIS. LONDON, January 22. Dr Arthur Hurst, of Guy’s Hospital, describes in the Lancet, the newest treatment for appendicitis, rheumatoid auttiritis, pernicious anaemia, dyspepsia, and gastritis by means of diluted hydrochloric acid. Dr Hurst sav* that all these disease* originate in the absence of free hydrochloric acid in the digestive juices.
