PALMERSTON A. AND P. SOCIETY.

ANNUAL SHOW, i The annual show of the Palmerston A. and P. Society was held on Friday under favourable weather conditions. The entries compared very favourably with those for last year, and the attendance was good. The exhibits, from the point of view of both quality and numbers, were very satisfactory, and .the members of the society are in a position to congratulate themselves upon a successful show. An outstanding section was that devoted to draught horses, some exceptionally fine animals being shown in close competition. The brood mares and the three-year-old fillies were particularly fine animals as a whole. The championship in the females was secured by J. A. Johnstone, Bushey ParK Estate, with Ladybird, which* will be remembered as a winner at Dunedin, and Mr Cullen’s Lawmuir carried off the ribbon for the best stallion. The mares and geldings are worthy of special mention, and the judge was of the opinion that the latter could not be beaten in any Otago ring. The competition in cattle was not so keen, but some animals with good show records were on view. By way of general reference it might be said that the section was productive of exhibits that would more than hold their own at the average country show, some of the animals having taken first places at Christchurch and Dunedin. The Friesian Society’s gold medal was taker! by Messrs C. and J. Nicholson’s Bruce of Pleasant Valley, which was recently imported from the Old Country In light horses and sheep the entries were only fair, and the standard was nothing obave ihe ordinary, although the quality of some of the Cornedale and Romney Marsh sheep wa3 excellent. There was a good entry and strong competition in the home products section. The officials saw to it that the show was properly conducted, and every credit is due to them for the substantial contribution to its success.
