DUPLICATE VOTING. CHRISTCHURCH, January 25. “It is gratifying to know,” said Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M., in dismissing a case in the Magistrate’s Court, “that there are few instances of personation at elections. Politically speaking', New Zealand is very honest.” The ease was one in which Florence S. Lawrence, and her husband, Stephen Lawrence, were charged with voting twice in Avon. The defence was that accused believed they were entitled to a second vote in respect of property qualification. The magistrate accepted the explanation, holding that there was no criminal intention.
