THE FRENCH MISSION.
CIVIC WELCOME AT FEILDING. FEILDING. January 24. Admiral Gilly and his staff and the members of the French Commercial Alission paid a short visit to Feilding this afternoon. The visitors were accorded a civic welcome. There was a large attendance, and speeches of welcome were given by the deputy-Alayor (Air J. W. Bramwell) and Air A. J. Killow (president of the Chamber of Commerce). Both hoped for a permanent friendship between France and the British Empire, and an increased mutual trade. The Admiral, in reply, said that he was charmed with tho beautiful country, and he praised New Zealand for having sent 100,000 men to assist France in tho fight for liberty. Those New Zealand soldiers buried on French soil were just as sacred fo France as their own soldiers. The '■-isitors wero entertained at after-no-vji ir l \ by the wives of the councillors, and later returned to Palmerston North.
