When the horse Oturi lost his rider in the Makuri Hurdles on the first day of the Stratford races (says the Post), he followed in the the rear of the field along the back, where an attempt was made to catch him. But he jumped the fence and rushed into the old lagoon, the bottom of which is foul with rotten logs and timber. The work of rescue occupied about a couple of hours, and the horse was in a bad wav. having been staked, in his struggles. fjlood poisoning set in, and the vet., put the animal out of suffering with a friendly bullet
