CHURCH OF ENCLAND MEN’S SOCIETY. CHRISTCHURCH, December 27. Archbishop Julius, addressing the Dominion Conference of the Church of England Men’s Society, said that the gospel of conversion was not a living tiling in the Church. If a man wished to ba converted he had to go to the Salvation Army. There was something wrong with a ministry when men were not being converted. He was in deep sympathy with the Labour movement, but was tremendously anxious about some things in connection with it. He knew its ideals were true and according to the mind of Christ, but he was afraid the Labour Party might forget the spiritual and mystic basis of any work that would be lasting and true. It might build on something narrower if it did not realise the spiritual basis of its ideals. If it “chucked” religion and the spirit of Christ, and lost sight of the sacramental nature of earthly service, it would be just about as helpful as other parties. The conference elected the following offi-cers:—Vice-president, the Rev. IT. G. Blackburn (Palmerston North); dominion treasurer, Mr J. W. Henderson (Wellington) ; dominion auditor, Mr R. M. Hunlay (Wellington) ; Dominion Council—Archdeacon Russell (Oamaru), Canon Wilford (Christchurch), Rev 7 . W. Bullock (Wellington), Messrs R. G. Hoase, W. J.: Lees, J. Snell, W. Nash (Wellington), and A. E. Harrison (Auckland). The next conference was fixed for Palmerston North in Easter week, 1924.

A collection of rhodendrons, running into 250 varieties, is possessed by Mr Percy Thomson, of Stratford. It is stated it is the most perfect collection in the dominion.
