AFTER THE RACES.
CHIEF DETECTIVE'S HOUSE ENTERED. WELLINGTON, July 13. At 3 o’clock this morning Chief-detective Kemp was awakened by a noise in his room. Switching on the light, he found a man standing by his bed. The intruder throw a scent bottle at Ketnji, narrowly missing Mrs Kemp’s head. The man bolted, and the chief detective gave chase in his pyjamas over a distanco of a quarter of a mile, tie eventually caught his man, who was taken to the police station later. This morning the magistrate remanded till next Wednesday a man named David Davies. 21 years of age, on a charge of breaking and entering and stealing articles valued at £6 from Chief-detective Kemp’s dwelling. Kemp and a friend had been to the races, and there was a large sum of money in the house.
