DAIRY PRODUCE

PROPOSED MARKETING POOL. STRONG SUPPORT IN NORTH ISLAND. WELLINGTON. May 6. Mr Brash, secretary of the National Dairy Association, states that almost a unanimous endorsement ha? been given by North Island producers to the proposal for a dairy pool for the regulation of shipments, the opening, developing, and stabilising of Home markets, and the co-operating with Australia and Denmark in marketing dairy produce. "I have just returned,” said Mr Brash, ‘‘from having attended meetings in Ilawera,

New Plymouth, Auckland, Hamilton, Wanganui, Palmerston North, Dannevirke, and Carterton, and the results are most gratifying. Whilst at, a few of the meetings there were one or two delegates opposed to a dairy pool, the resolution to establish a compulsory pool was carried unanimously. It is evident that the dairy producers of the dominion have quite made up their minds that some better principle should be aimed at than the existing method of marketing butter and cheese at Home. At an early date the delegates from the different dairying districts will assemble in Wellington to adopt finally the proposal. It is anticipated that the pool will be in operation in time to handle next season’s business The main principle involved has been affirmed, and it is only in connection with some of the details of the scheme, the amount of capital required, the number of directors necessary, and so forth, that there is any conflict of opinion among pro* d'Jeers.”

Mr Brash also said that the cabled comments of The Grocer seriously misrepresented the proposals Gable messages had been received from some of the principal consignment houses in London stating- that they would support the scheme. The opposition was only from speculative concerns. The pool was intended to obtain justice for the New Zealand producer, who had been used as a pawn in London speculation to th| detriment of New Zealand.
