TRANSPORTATION.
RAIL AND ROAD SERVICES. CHRISTCHURCH, May 4. The problem of transportation as it affects Canterbury wag the subject of a report presented to the Progress League by the organiser (Mr P. R. Climie), who, in accordance with the request of the executive, reviewed th© conditions of road and rail transport. “The big question,” says the report, “affecting the railway policy in the future is clearly that of co-ordinating rail and road services as far as may be just. How far the Government can go is a matter for the future to decide; but it is clear enough that in Canterbury, at any rate, there is an outstanding invitation to the department to attack this problem at once.” 111 summarising the conclusions, a number of points were put forward covering new construction, railway management, and road transport. At last night's meeting the executive decided to discuss the report at the annual meeting, and in the meantime to have 3000 copies printed in book form for circulation.
