CRIME WAVE IN AUSTRALIA
ARCHBISHOP MANNIX OUTSPOKEN. (From Our Own Correspondents.) SYDNEY, April 22. Some outspoken comments regarding what he described as the appalling wave of crime in Australia have just been mad© by Archbishop Mannix. Dr Mannix said be was appalled at the wave of crime which was to-day sweeping over Australia. True, Australia did not stand alono in that respect. These crimes were not the result of the war. It was quite unfair to saddle the people who w r ent to the war with crimes committed by those who did not go to the war—who were too young to go to the war. People who vere educated under the State school system committed the crimes. Some people held that picture shows were the cause of the crime wave, but lie believed the fundamental cause was that the education given to-day at the expense of the people of Australia was not what it should he. They were all proud of the children of Australia, who were tiheir greatest asset. There were none better than the voting Australians if they were given a fair chance.
