BETTING SWINDLE
ARRESTS IN PARIS. PARIS, May 2. At the request of the-American Eimbassy, detectives arrested John Pincott (Melbourne) and Arthur Ernest Knox (a Londoner), commission agents, who left New York with 100,000 dollars. They were staying at the Crillon, a most expensive hotel, in Paris. Only 20,000 francs were found in their possession. Tho charge against them was not disclosed.
NEW YORK, May 3. The men came to America in 1921, in company with F.ric Skogstadt, a Norwegian bank president, aboard the Aquitania. After a casual acquaintance picked up in a London bar, the three travelled to 1 roy, New York State, "where a horseracing and betting swindle resulted in Skogstadt losing 100,000 dollars. Cox and Prescott disappeared, and Skogstadt appealed to the Norwegian Consul, who enlisted the services of the New York Police Department, which traced the men to Paris, where they were arrested. PARIS, Alay 4. Prescott and Cox have been arrested in connection with an option over a mine in South Africa which cannot be found. It is alleged that the accused have to face a score of complaints in the American courts. They have been spending lavishly in night haunts at Montmartre.
