Some amusement was caused in the Gore Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning (says the Clutha Leader) when the clerk read out a summons charging the Mayor and councillors of the Gore Borough Council with failing to register firearms —to wit, ihe rifles, etc. (Boer War relics), in the Gore Library. On the sergeant stating the case the magistrate (Mr E. C. I.evvy) asked : Is this not straining the Act ? The Mayor (Mr D. M'Dougall) explained that the council was not aware that the rifles would have to be registered, and the magistrate dismissed the information on condition that the firearms were registered. Miss E. Boss, principal at Columba College, gave a fancy dress dance on Wednesday last in honour of her birthday. Victoria Hall, where, the dance was held, was brilliantly decorated for the occasion by Mrs Robert Ewing and the senior day girls. Autumn flowers and foliage were used in great masses, and streamers of the college colours.
