MISSING BOY FOUND
UNHARMED BY LONG EXPOSURE. GISBORNE, January 23. A lad, aged 12 years, named Clare, the son of a Gisborne baker, went pig hunting with a settler at Matawai on Friday. About 1 o’clock the settler located a pig, and left the boy with a dog at a particular spot in the bush, telling him to remain there. On his return neither dog nor lad was to be seen. Search parties are out, but no sign has been found so far. The country is rough and the weather bad. January 24. Search parties are still out in all directions searching for the missing lad Clare, but excepting the discovery of footprints indicating that the boy was making straight into the bush, no success has rewarded their efforts. The injured dog returned to the hotel on Friday night. The settler who took the lad out on Friday states that they killed a pig, and in the . encounter the dog . was ripped. The settler made for the hotel, the boy following with the injured dog. He lost touch with the lad for a few minutes, and returned over his track, but could find no trace of him. A laier message fays that the missing boy was found this morning two miles in the bush. He was well, despite the long exposure. ( His legs were swollen, but La soon recovered.
