POOREST COTTON CROP ON RECORD. WASHINGTON, October 3. Government reports show that the cotton crop is 42 per cent, below the average, or 12 per cent, below the worst previous record. There will he little middle crop and practically no top crop from the trees. The weather and boll weevils are responsible. FARMERS CONTROL CONGRESS. WASHINGTON, October 4. The Administration is greatly concerned at the growing power of the farmers’ political group, which now controls Congress with over a score of senators and about 100 members of the House of Representatives. The Administration leader's are unable to direct the legislation in the Senate. They are unable to pass the Revenue Bill, and the House cannot proceed. It is the first time in American history that a- powerful Legislative group has controlled Congress. Only four measures have been passed during" the last six months—the billion dollar farm export credit, the emergency tariff, prevention of grain exchanges dealing in futures, and the control of the packing industry. Five other measures to be forced through will ail benefit the fanners.
