SHEARERS’ AWARD
! ITS APPLICATION GENERAL, WELLINGTON, October 4. In connection with the statement of Mr ] Ginynclkr, secretary of the Workers’ Union, ! to the effect that the shearers’ award apj plies to ‘lie Wellington district only, the Labour Department, states that his is incorrect, Hie award applies to Northern Taranaki, Wellington, Marlborough, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland districts. The case was heard throughout the country, Mr Grayndler 'representing the unions, and at the request of both parties it was decided to make uniform awards. This was done, and the awards are now in force in all the districts mentioned. The old award is completely superseded by the new one, and any sheep-owner not bound by the new award is not bound by any award. I " HAS IT A DOMINION APPLICATION. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, October 6. The Minister of Labour was asked to-day by Mr F. F. Hockley (Rotorua) whether he had seen a statement published in Wellington last night to the effect that the shearers’ award applied only to the Wellington province. If the award had a dominion application, asked Mr O. Grayndler. secretary of the New Zealand Workers’ Union, in the paragraph, why were no copies obtainable elsewhere than in Wellington? Air Ifockley asked tile Minister to make a definite statement on the matter, which was one of some importance to country districts. The Hon. G. J. Anderson replied that he had made a statement two days previously, and ho had no reason to alter anything } that he had said then A separate award [ had been made for all the districts which i he then mentioned, and he presumed that i the court had full power to make them. Just before the House adjourned for dinner Mr Anderson intimated that he had received a copy of the award. He said it applied to each district in the dominion, except Nelson and West Coast. Anyone who wished to see the award could do so at his office or they could get, it at the | Labour Office.
