FIRE IN COAL MINE.
HUNT LY. October 3. A fire occurred in the Tatipiri Company’s coal mine at Rotowaro on Sunday morning, and it is reported to be still burning strongly. The mine is closed for work, and water is being pumped in from the swamps. A later message from Auckland says that tho flooding was completed to-day. Tho cause of the fire is unknown. It will bo some time before operations can lie resUTned, involving a loss of output of 4-00 tons daily. Between 120 and 150 men who wore employed at Rotow aro have been given Work at the conmany’s other mine at fluntlv. AUCKLAND, October 4. The fire in the Rotowaro coal mine is under control, and the management expects to resume work next week. The secretary of the Taupiri Goal Company states that the Rotowaro tire is stifled ami cannot, make any great progress, as the air cannot get at it. The fire will now burn itself out in a confined area.
