CLYDESDALE HORSES

ANNUAL SHOW. THOMSON AND COMPANY’S FINE PERFORMANCE. The thirty-eighth annual show of Clydes, dale entire horses was held at lahuna Park on Thursday in beautiful sunny weather, ilicre was an excellent attendance. Mr E O. Hazlett (president of the society) was present, at the head of ail efficient. body of committeemen, whilst Me ii. V. Fulton (secretary) saw- to all tho de* tail. The marshals were Messrs J. Gow and D. Andrew; the class stewards, Messrs J. Nimmo, f. J. Gav.n, and J. W. Blair. The horses were inspected on Wednesday by three veterinary surgeons—Messrs Snowball. Danskin. and Blair. The judges (Messrs John Ewan, Merriovale, Southland, and \V. R. Gawn, Oamaru) took tho Aged Class first (prizes £5, £2, and £1), and after a thorough examination of the animals they placed them as follows: Messrs Thomson and Company's (North Taicri) Brilliant Again, by Newton Chief (imp.) Air Frank Anderson s (Grove Bush, Southland) Drum-need Prince, by Dunedin —Missis. Mr James Birtles (Waikouaiti) had Shunter, by Auchenfiower- Jean of Shunter, for exhibition only. The Messrs Thomson achieved a fina success in obtaining first and second with their four and five-year-old lull brothers (bred by themselves). The winner, as a. three-year-old, was first in his class at tho spring show last season, and was also reserve champion, being beaten by Scotland’s Success, who was not shown on Thursday. Hi'j-fi Honour was second in the show at Christchurch this season. Myroe Footprint, an imported horse brought to New Zealand some 18 months ago —tiie animal had a rough passage out —was malting his first appearance at a show in New* Zealand. The judges said that any one of tho seven horses selected for the final adjudication was fit to take a prize anywhere in New Zealand. The horse placed fifth (Springfield Stamp) might have been further up if he had handled himself better.
