PRICE OF BUTTER.
REDUCTION IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH. September 29. Factories in Christchurch have reduced the net price of outer from 2s 2d to 2s Id a lb, and the retail rate has corespondingly declined from 2s 4d to 2s 3d. It is claimed by grocers that they can land best factory butter from the North Island at 2s a lb in pats, and in consequence they anticipate a further reduction in the factory price in Canterbury. RUMOURED FALL IN WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, September 29. Sensational rumours are afloat as to the pending fall in the butter market. Considerable cutting is said to be going on in the Wellington butter trade, one well-known brand being retailed at 2s per lb. This, it is believed, will lead to other factories supplying the Wellington market reducing their prices. It is understood that a reduction of about 3d per lb will be announced early next week.
