THE ONGAROTO MURDERER.
SENTENCE TO BE CARRIED OUT. WELLINGTON, September 28. The cnee of the Maori Hakaraia To Kahu, who was convicted in the Supreme Court at Hamilton of the murder of Patrick Elliott, at Ongaroto, on March 27, and sentence ! to death by Mr Justice Stringer, ■was considered to-day at a special meeting of the Executive Council presided over by the Governor-General. The decision arrived at was that the Executive Council, after very fully considering the case, could not see any grounds for interfering in the proper carrying out of the sentence The Minister of Justice (the lion. E. P. I.ee), in making this announcement, slated that the condemned man had made, a statement before a stipendiary magistrate in the Auckland prison to th« effect tint he had shot Elliott, and afterwards robbed him, but that the shooting ■was accidental.
