EXPENDITURE OVERTAKES REVENUE. The Railway Working Account, showing the revenue and expenditures for the period from April 1 to August 20, appears in the current issue of the Gazette. The revenue for the period totalled £2.562,553, as compared with £2,423,038 in the corresponding jieriod of last year, an increase of £139,515 —- equal to about 5j per cent. The expenditure totalled £2,609,883, as against £2,031,597—an increase of £578,236 —equal to about 28 per cent. For the same period last year the position was as under : Revenue £2.423,038 Expenditure 2,031,597 Showing a profit of £391,441.
