There have been several skirmishes with the rebels, who have been drilling and going through musketry practice in the open ground at the Palace at Nilambur. The leader of the rebels compelled the working classes to dig trenches, erect barricades, reap the crops, and destroy roads and bridges. The public of Calicut is demanding more rigorous measures against the rebels.
