THUNDERSTORMS IN AUCKLAND.
ELECTRIC POWER (IFF. YOUTI3 KILLED BY LIGHTNING. 'IE AWAMUTTg September 20. A violent thunderstorm about 9.30 last evening crashed over Te Awamutu. The first clap extinguished all electric lights from the Ilorahora power station. A econd clap five minutes later restored i hem, but. this morning all current is off. The damage is believed to be located between Te Awamutu and Cambridge. Ivan Press-land, aged 19, a postal cadet, was found early this morning killed by lightning lying on the footpath. He bad applied for a transfer to Gisborne, where his parents reside, and was waiting to be relieved any day. A UCK LANI>. September 29. Two houses at Northcote were struck by lightning last night. The chimney of one was levelled to the roof, and the chimney of the other partly destroyed, while a nuinlvT of boards wore stripped from under the eaves. Water and gas pines were fn e<| and the ln-ass water taps melted. During a heavy Blunder pr. rm jliout midnight a house at Euneii owned and occupied by Mr d. .f. Auiluiry caught, fun' through lightning striking a cable and breaking the gas pipe. The damage is only about £ls.
