CLEARING THE CUSTOMS.

CHRISTCHURCH, September 23. In common with what is happening in other centres, an eleventh-hour rush by importers to clear goods from bond in anticipation of an increase in the Customs tariff has developed in Christchurch bonds, which have been practically cleared of stocks of spirits and wines, and will soon be cleared of tobacco # Clearances of bools have also been made on a big scale. There is very little drapery to clear, most of the concerns having by now paid duty on their importations. Very little merchandise is now held in bond. DISTRIBUTION* OF INCOME IN GREAT BRITAIN.
