Gourley then went to the side and plunged over, and when Dowell threw a rope and a life-belt he disregarded them. Dowell informed the police, and then got a boat and rowed . to his rescue, but by the time he had j him out of the water life was gone. r I he i circumstances of the case were inquired into by Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., corner, at an inquest held at the morgue at 4 p.m. The police were represented by Seageant Stanaban. After hearing evidence the Coroner returned a- verdict that death was due to suicide by drowning in Dunedin Harbour while deceased was in a depressed state of mind.
