The Necessity of Using Fertilizers for Wheat Crops Fertilisers give abundant crops. The best fertilisers give the best crops. Big crops make big profits. By the expenditure of a few shillings per acre on the purchase of a good fertiliser the yield of grain can be increased! by many bushels per acre. The most effective way of reducing the cost of producing a crop is to increase the yield per acre. This can be done by using a good fertiliser. By doubling your crop per acre you are more than Doubling your Profits par acre. Owing to the Government having guaranteed a minimum price for next season's wheat a very large number of farmers have decided to take advantage of the opportunity given them of ensuring a certain return on at least a portion of their land holding. Use “ECLIPSE” FERTILIZERS ancj ensure big yields. One of the many instances of the magnificent results obtained by the use of “Eclipse” Fertilisers is testified to by Mr P. Gihnour, of Methven (Ashburton County), who writes to the New Zealand Refrigerating Co. as follows: “The accompanying photograph was taken at the time I cut my crop last harvest. It was grown with lewt of ‘Eclipse’ Fertilser to the acre and thrashed out 60 Bushels to the Acre. Th© crop was grown on land where previously I had not obtained good crops of wheat; I am. therefore, more than satisfied with my experience of ‘Eclipse’ Fertiliser, and you can make what use j r ou like of this photograph and letter.” It is interesting to note that th© average wheat crop, according to th© Government Statistician, in Canterbury to the end of Juno of this year is 32.52 bushels pe-r acre. Till’d Mr Gilmour’s high opinion of “ECLIPSE” FERTILIZERS ia widely held throughout New Zealand is evidenced by the following facts: The number of farmers using “Eclipse” In 1914-15 was 1,200 In 1915-16 was 3,550 In 1919-20 was 5,400 The gTeat scientist, Sir 'William Crookes, 0.M., F.It.S., in his book, “The Wheat Problem,” wrote: “Wo must rely on nitrogenous manures to increase the fertility of the land under wheat so as to raise the yield from the world’s low average—l 2.7 bushels per acre—to a higher average.” “Eclipse” Fertilisers contain blood and bone (nitrogen) superphosphates and high-grade phosphates, and therefore supply the requirements of South Island soils.
