SMOKE CONCERT
PASSING OF NO. 2 FIELD AMBULANCE. Among the military units which is suffering disbandment in consequence of the re-organisation of the Territorial Forces is No. 2 Field Ambulance. First known as the Dunedin Bearer Corps, it was later described as No. 2 Field Hospital and Bearer Company, and finally became No. 2 Field Ambulance. South Africa. Egypt, Gallipoli, Salonica, the Somme. Messincs, Passchendae'e, and more testify to the record of the unit on the field of battle. It was one of the first, if not the first, to be formed in New Zealand, and has an excellent record for efficiency. To mark the passing of the Ambulance a smoke concert was held in Kroon’s Hall on Saturday night. Major W. Newlands presided, and was supported by several ■well-known medical officers. The programme followed the usual custom of toasts, varied with musical and other items. Members of the Fourth Regimental Band were well to the front in a capital programme.
