ALEXANDRA, August 16. There has been an unusual amount of rain recently, and in consequence the soil is well soaked. Grass is already making good growth, and, with a favourable spring, the growth on the hills will be exceptionally good. There is a fair coating of snow on the ranges, but so far there has been very little frost. Considerable interest is being shown in ladies' hockey in Vincent, four teams being in existence —Alexandra Ladies’ Club, Alexandra District High School Clyde Ladies' Club, and Cromwell Ladies’ Club. In a contest for a cun Clyde are practically the winners, having not sustained a defeat, and hive only one more game to play.
