NEW WAR TERROR
A MONSTER GUN. NEW YORK, July 9. Dr Hutchinson, Mr Edison’s chief engineer, gave a demonstration of a new gun which is able to hurl a five-ton projectile 200 to 300 miles, the discharge being noiseless, smokeless, anu without recoil. Smokeless powder is utilised. The gun can develop a muzzle velocity of five miles per second. Its extraordinary powers are due to the fact that the powder is burned, all of it being consumed before the projectiles are discharged. The miniature specimen gun used was only Bin long, but the principle for the greater gun will be the same. Mr Hudson Maxim declared the weapon to be wonderful. Another armament expert said: “It will do more eventually to bring peace than the Peace Conference, as it will make war too terrible.” The gun is the invention of Mr John Temple, a Britisher.
