OPOSSUMS.
PLENTIFUL IN SOUTHLAND. (Fitoil Oi;it Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, July 1. The opossum thrives in different parts of Southland, and the declaration of an open season for ono month has resulted in many applications to take them. A local skin merchant told a Southland Times reporter that there should be about 10,000 skins in the province. The varieties found locally are the blue and the black. The former is located in the Makoreta and Chaslands districts, .and the latter are in the Western districts. A number of each variety wore liberated in Stewart Island, but they crossed, with the result that their skins are between the two classes.
