DIPHTHERIA.
DECLINING IN OTAGO DISTRICT. For the last six weeks there has been move or less diphtheria in the Otago district-, but there is no sign of any increase. In fact, the tendency is rather to decrease a little. The last figures (for the week ended last Monday) showed that during the previous week seven cases were admitted and eight discharged, leaving 35 in the hospitals. eight cases in southland. There h avo been rumours about town during the past few days that diphtheria has made its appearance in Invercargill (says the Southland Times). It is reassuring that inquiries made at the local Health Office on Thursday show that during June there have been only two families affected in the Southland district-. In one family there are six with (he disease, and in the other family two. A number of contacts have been isolated, and this is expected to arrest any further spread of the trouble. One family was located in the country and the oilier in Invprangill.
