WEEK'S MINING NEWS June 29. The secretary of the Nokomai Hydraulic Sluicing Company reports that a wash-up was made at Ho. 2 claim, the result being 31cz sdwt for the paddock. A start was made last Wednesday to strip off the top material of the next paddock. No. 3 had only three days’ sluicing last week, and the progress made was slew owing to tire water supply being short through a pipe in Forster's Creek siphon bursting. The siphon is now in order again. July 1. The Kise and Shine dredge worked mainly on coal bottom last week. In the previous cut the coal disappeared at a point a little ahead of the present position of the dredge. If clay bottom does not come in this week, the dredge will Ire pulled ahead a little in the hope of picking it up. July 4. The master of the Kise and Shine dredge reports a reiurn of 17ez 3dwt for 130 hours work. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE The share market this week was fairly active, a good volume of business being transacted. New Zealand Drugs had a sale on Monday at 53s 6c!i, but on Friday the best buying offer was 52s 3d, the seller quoting Sts. New Zealand Paper Mills were dealt in fairly extensively at 2s 2d, but then eased, having turnover at 2s, Is 9d, Is 6d, and IsHd, closing without a declared buyer. A parcel of paid-ups was placed on Friday at 23s 6d Bank of New Zealand changed hands on Tuesday at 45s 6d, after which they firmed, and on Friday there was a buyer at 46s 3d in a market bare of sellers. Standard Insurance were quitted on Tuesday at 44s 6d, but on Friday there was a buyer at 4Gs and no declared seller, xvational Bank were quitted on Wednesday at £5 17s, and on Friday a fairly close market was made without leading to further business. On Thursday a j>areel of Bank of Australasia was placed at £B2, at which there was a buyer on Friday but no declared seller. National Insurance sold on Frciay at 57s 3d, and finished with a buyer close up, the seller quoting fairly wide. Westport Goal had a sale at 275, and a buyer at 26s 10d on Friday went unsupplied. Two sales in Waihi were reported on Tuesday at 31s, and the market closed steady with a two-shilling market. Huddart, Parker had moderate attention on Wednesday at 45s and 45s 6d, and on Thursday at 45s 6d and 455, the market closing on Friday with a buyer at 44s and a seller at 455. Kaiapci Woollen were placed on Wednesday at_2ss, and on Friday there .was a buyer at 25s 3d and no declared seller. There was a good demand for Government stocks, but the only sale effected was on Friday in 4h per cent, bonds (1938) at £B3 2s 6d. A sound tone pervaded the share market on Saturday, though the only business transacted was in Paper Mills rights, which suffered a further decline. After a sale at Is Id, another parcel changed hands at Is, and the market closed with a seller at Is 4d and no declared buyer. Government stocks were in good demand, hut there was no turnover.
