EXPLORING GRAHAM’S LAND. MELBOURNE, June 29. The Federal Department has received a letter which was posted on a whale catcher at Auvord Bay, Graham Land, last December, from Captain Wilkins, giving details of the landing of Dr Cope • expedition. The party consists of Dr Cope, Captain, Wilkins, Mr Bagehawe (geoiog.st), and Mr Lister (topographer). Considerable stores and equipment and eight dogs were landed. The intention was to start as soon as possible across Graham's Land, and establish a base on the other side. Then next spring, or possibly late in the present winter, to go south, carrying supplies, and returning in the summer, living on seal meat. The steamer will cal! for the party in February. 1922. From these facts it appears that Dr Cope’s ambitious expedition has developed into a mere reconnaissance party for ex-plc-ring Graham’s Land.
