TWO NEW KNIGHTS.

HONOURED BY NEW ZEALAND CLUB. WELLINGTON, June 15. Major-general i?ic Donald M'Gavin, Director of Medical Services, and Sir John Luke, ex-Mayor of Wellington, both of whom were recently honoured with titles for war services, were chief among several distinguished guests at the New Zealand Club luncheon to-day. Tho chairman (Mr Baldwin) referred in terms of high praise to the services they rendered during the war, Sir Donald in his military capacity, and Sir John as Mayor of Wellington. He also made reference to the splendid work of their helpmates—Lady M'Gavin and Lady Luke. In reply to tho congratulations, Sir Donald M'Gavin gave an interesting 110count of the work of the war hospitals, figures showing that there were numbers of patients still receiving treatment. Ho announced that all the institutions were running smoothly. Sir John Luke paid a tribute to tho work of the citizens of Wellington, of whic h he had been proud to be Mayoi during the war. Speaking of the dominion in general, he reminded his hearers that there were other things besides wool, million, butter, and cheese, and Parliament should turn its attention to those other tilings, such ns secondary industries, to provide employment for the rising generation. Sound technical education was at the bottom of all successful industry. They had the best country in the world. Let them be worthy of their trust and carry on.
