ALLEGATIONS OF WASTE

WELLINGTON, June 14. Reference was made by the Alinister of Defence (Sir R. Heaton Rhodes) to statements that there \s a waste of food at the various military camps and hospitals. “v\e here had a thorough inquiry made,” said the Alinister, “and I have satisfied myself that waste is not going on, and that economy, without in any way stinting the tiainces or patients, is being practised wherever lossible.” The food supplied by tne Army Service Corps, he said was always good and plentiful, but waste was eareluily guarded against. Only such rations in kind and quality as were required from day to day were drawn, and rations were never issued for men on leave.
