AUCKLAND, June 18. At 6.30 last night the caretaker of the gate Deposit building in High street found smoke in the life well, and the door broken open. fie found a motor car ablaze, and extinguished the lire. It was discovered that tho insulation had been burned away, the incendiary after starting the fire evidently pulled out the plugs front the main switch, throwing the whole building into darkness, and then locked Iho door and removed the key. His object was apparently simply to destroy the motor car and dkorganise the lighting and Lift convenience. The police are invwst*-ating.
