Mr J. B. Merrett inentmn <1 at tho gathering of poultry-men at Vi'ellingt ti recently that there yvas a small township in California about the size of Lower Ifutt which went in for the poultry industry. In tiiis small narrow valley there were over five million birds, iu<st double tho total number of birds in New Zealand. Ho had stayed at one place where one man possessed 35.000 laying birds. Tn New Zealand they fiddled around yvith 500 birds.
