EARTH TREMORS.

3 i LOUD EXPLOSIONS HEARD. SYDNEY, June 15. ■ 1 Earthquake shocks were felt to-day in Sydney, extending over a period ot four hours, creating great excitement. Loud explosions were heard, and houses were I shaken, hut no damage is reported. The ) shocks were not recorded at the Observe 1 tory. f June 16. Yesterday's disturbances were mysteri- . ous. They were at first attributed to 5 earth tremors, hut in view of the fact . that the instruments disclose no vestiges ■ of earth movement, the scientists arc inclined to attribute them to unexplained ! air tremors. 1 Another suggestion is that they were ' j caused by very heavy blasting at Liverpool Camp, where the o'd German internment camp, including a big hill, is oeing blown up. The explosions were so heavy that windows and crockery were broken in Liverpool township. ■ June 17. ; ! The silt urbs were again severely shaken by eartli tremors, which, for (he first time, were recorded on the seismograph at Riverview. Three very marked shocks were registered. Dr Pigott states that they undoubtedly are due to explosions of gun- ' cotton. The Eastern Extension cables are ’ seriously interrupted. The Sydney office states that the trouble is probably due toi i i a submarine earthquake in the Red Sea.
