ELDERLY MALES DEATH

On the afternoon of Wednesday, Ist inst., Mr James Taylor, a retired civil servant, aged 84 years, who resided at 40 Ann street, Rosh-n, in attempting to board a moving tramcar, fell on tile roadway on his face, and his condition was such that it was deemed advisable to have him removed to the hospital, where he died at 6.10 am. oil Sunday. An inquest was opened at the hospital on Sunday evening before Mr H. Y. Wicldowson, S.M., sitting as coroner, Plainclothes Constable M Oulioch representing the police. William Thomas Oilmour, residing at 102 Carroll street, identified the body as that of his brother-in-law. He saw the deceased shortly after his admission to the hospital. Referring to the accident, deceased said he was trying to board a moving tramcar when ho fell. Ho said no ono was to blame for the accident. Dr MdClymont, senior house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital, said he saw the patient on admission. He was suffering from abrasions on his face and on both hands, and from shook, which was accentuated by his feeble physical condition. Everything possible was done for him, but he died as stated. Death was due to ’heart failure, following on shock, as the result of injuries sustained m an accident, in his opinion the injuries would have been trifling in a normally constituted person. The inquest was adjourned to Wednesday next.
