MOTHER AND SON BANQUET. A unique function was held in the x.AI.C.A. Hoys’ Division on Friday night, v hen a gathering of mothers and sons mot together at a banquet. The attendance totalled 142, of which 69 were mothers, who entered enthusiastically into the proceedings. Jhe room was gaily decorated for the occasion, and everything started on time. " e Junction opened with the refreshments, after which the orchestra gave a selection. Hie toast of his Majesty the King was honoured. Ihe chairman (Air Ifaslett) spoke ot the father and son banquet held last jear, and said it was fitting that, such a function should be held fo*- the mothers. A meeting such as this gave each one a true idea of the relationship of mother and son. Mr Ifaslett explained some of the Y.M.C.A. work for boys, but emphasised the aim of t-ie association to show and fight for the . ihat the home must be the pride of the boy, and the home must have as a foundation the Clmreli. ’lhe movement for the bettering of the relationship between the mother, father, and the son was developing all over the world, and lie was proud to see eo many mothers present with their son*. Mr j*.. Ward, one of the boys in membership, proposed the toast of the mothers, and said that boys were inclined to think lightly of their mother’s influence when they were young, but they needed it all, and the older they grow the more they valued their mother. Mrs O. North, who replied, thanked those present for the enthusiastic toast, and appealed to the boys to honour their mother’s lo\e. Mrs North spoke feelingly of the loving care and guidance of all mothers, and their anxiety to see their hoy become the right kind of man. The love of mother was tiie first perception of the love of God, and for the sacrifice of mother love it was up to every boy to play the game and to remember the greatest of all tilings was to live a life that would do honour to ins mother. After several of the toasts had been honoured and the singing of the National Anthem the boys snowed their mothers over the bojV rooms, explaining ail the system as it is earned out. They then retired to the gymnasium, where a squad of bovs gave a display of apparatus work followed by a game of basket ball, between the Papatua and llaka Clubs. Tne game resulted in a draw. The Dunedin Y.M.C.A. is equipped to accommodate from I2CO to 15-00 men and boys in membership. ’
