WEEK'S MINING NEWS J MIG 9. The Rise and Shine dredge had coal bottom | practically over the full cut last week, but | clay bottom came in at the west corner j about the end of the week. It will be some i little time before the dredge is clear of the coal bottom, which, carries very little wash. ] The average depth was about 32ft. DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. There is a very satisfactory turnover to show ior the week’s business on tli£ local Stock Exchange. Huddart, Parker shares were in keen demand oil Friday, and several lots were eokl at 41s Cd and 41s 3d. The ! closing quotations (41s and 41s Cd) were the j ruling prices at the beginning of the week. IP. and O. deferred stock lias fluctuated | slightly, but is now firm in tone. It was j sought on Friday at £335, but no seller was ; attracted. Banking .stocks are steady. Bank j of New Zealand shares have had business at j 45s 94, at which price they were wanted jon Friday. Both National Bank and New South Wales shares have been in firm demand from day to day, but sellers have been off the market. Bank of Australasia shares are slightly advanced on earlier quotations. Early in the week there was a sale of Union Bank at £l2, but there lias been jno further business. Both Westport Coal and Westport-Stockton shares have shown some activity. The former have changed owners on two occasions at 265, and the latter at 6s 3d and 6s 6cl. Sellers have been somewhat scarce in insurance lines, and tne re has been no fluctuation in values. Generally speaking, prices in the investment market I have been well maintained, and a firm tone is noticeable, although the shortage of money is still restricting business. Bruce Woollen shares continue firm. A buyer secured a line on Wednesday at 40s, and the stock was in demand again on Friday at the same price, with a seller at 41s. New Zealand Refrigerating shares (contributing) were sold for 16s Gd, and have been in demand since at 10s od. Mining shares have attracted a fair share of attention, and prices have been well maintained. Waibis have firmed to 30s, and Waihi Grand Junction also show a slight advance, being now quoted at 10s fid and 11s, buyers and sellers respectively. Mount Lyell, which were sold for 12- Gd on Tuesday, were finally quoted on Friday at 13s id amt 13s 6d. Talisman Consolidated changed hands at 6s Id. There was a very, evident desire to do business on ’Change on Saturday. War Bonds (4; per cent.), maturing in 1938, changed trends at £B2 12s 6d and £B2 13s, closing firm, while other Government stocks were in good request. New Zealand Refrigerating (con.) were placed at 16s 74. at which price buyers were prepared to continue, the seller asking 16s 9d. New Zealand Paper Mills had business at 24s 9d, and finished steady.
