FIRES.
ASHBURTON, June 7. A large wooden boarding-house was completely destroyed by fire this norumg. it was occupied by Mrs J. Bain, who, with her lour daughters and the eight boarders escaped in night attire. Practically all the effects and furniture were lost. The insurances on til-; house with the Nov. V 1 hi Office was £BSO, that on the furniture (Liverpool and London and Globe) £4OO. PALMERSTON NORTH. June 7. .Five early this morning serious ly damaged the two-storeyed Ihtck building in the square known as Cole’s Buildings. The ground floor was ocejpDd by Cole’s music shop. Other portions were occupied by 7 the Salvation Army, Repatriation Department, L<vuchlnn (jeweller), Small (dentist), Holmes Rankles (pianoforte tutor), Miss Swanson (dressmaker), Raffle* (violin tutor). Price (artist), and the Thecsophicnl Society office. The Repatriation Department was completely gutted, also Tkauehlan’s shop, situated above it. Wycherley’s saddlery workshop, adjoining, was also damaged. The rooms and fittings of Air Small and of the Salvation Army were damaged by flames and water, and the other rooms by water only.
