CONSOLIDATING THE -STATUTES \\ ELLINGTON, February 24. Cabinet has decided to appoint Mr Justice Chapman, who will shortly retire from the Supreme Court Bench, Compiler of Statutes. This is a new appointment, but one which is long overdue. The new departure will be a tremendous boon to all who are concerned with the unravelling of the country’s laws. There are at present so many enactments regarding certain matters, that to give a clear decision on certain issues would puzzle the proverbial Philadelphia lawyer. Under the new proposal this consolidation of the statutes will go on a 1! the time, and Acts will practically be kept up to date. Each statute in its consolidated form will, of course, have to be submitted to Parliament. and finally passed by it.
