WANGANUI RACES. First Day—Thursday, February 24. The Wanganui Jockey Club opened its autumn meeting to-day in fine weather. There was a record attendance. The totalisator handled £59,838, against £49,176 for the first day of last year’s meeting. Results: WIRITOA HACK RACE HANDICAP. Idle Talk went to the front after a quarter of a mile had been covered, showing the way out of the straight to Lovematc r Maioha, Woody Glen, and Bonnie Maid, and there was no change going along the back. Idle Talk led Lovematch, Maioha, and Marqueteur into the straight. The favourite challenged Maioha at the distance, and beat him by a head, Bose Queen being three lengths further away.
