February 18. Dear “Pascjuin,”—Mr E. J. Gravestock, who has been here since December last awaiting the New .South Wales State Orchestra, was officially advised this week of the abandonment of the tour. Mr Gravestock returned to Sydney on Thursday. Our next attraction will be in the New Zealand 1 iggers. They are due to open at the Grand Opera House next Thursday. Victor Beck is duo here to make the preliminary arrangements. The company had a most successful time on the West Coast. It is likely that the Diggers will play tho Easter dates in Ilis Majesty’s at Auckland. Strenuous efforts are being made to obtain accommodation on the Sydney steamers for the “Sinbad the Sailor” Pantomime Company. If the necessary arrangements can be made, the pantomime will open here at Easter. The shipping holdup has upset all the plans of Williamson, Etd , .and the Tails for tours in Now Zealand.. . Also, theatre employees in the Dominion are feeling the lack of companies. An interesting theatrical law suit is likely to be heard in Wellington in the near future. Fuller’s Vaudeville is having a great time, the big theatre being crowded nightly. The Wellington Choral Union intended to produce Edward German’s opera, “Merrie England.” As the rights of this opera have now boon acquired by J. C. Williamson, permission has been withdrawn. “Merrie England may be included in the repertoire of the Gnbert-S'Ulhvan Opera Company when it visits the Dominion this year.
