Fruitgrowers in Hastings district suffered severely by a gale on the 15th inet. The orchards arc well sheltered in the direction of the prevailing wind, but this gale came from the opposite direction, and trees getting tho full force were stripped—apples, pears, plums, and peaches— to a considerable extent. d ices were broken down and in some rises uprooted. Largo quantities of fruit, in many oases not sufficiently matured, will not be any good. The loss is considerable, especially at the top of the shortage of the season’s crops.
